WIMP AM 1620

WIMP AM 1620 is a legal, unlicensed broadcast station serving a small area of Covington, KY.  Covington is a suburb of 40,000 people located directly south of downtown Cincinnati, OH and sits along the Ohio River in northern Kentucky.

Currently WIMP AM has a very limited broadcast range of about three city blocks due to the use of an indoor antenna.  We are planning to install an appropriate outdoor antenna in the Fall of 2019 with the hope that we can increase our listening range to at least a mile radius from the transmitter.  You can learn more about the technical side of legal, unlicensed AM broadcasting on the Technical Information page.

We are a test station in the sense that we are using a new transmitter in a challenging environment which provides less than ideal conditions for low power AM broadcasting.  We hope that a outdoor antenna will allow us to maximize the broadcast range for a transmitter of this type.

"The Smooth side of Life".    The WIMP plays current Smooth Jazz hits as well as songs and hits from the 80's, 90's and first two decades of the 20's!   You can also enjoy the "Roots of Jazz" each and every hour with a song or two from the 70's or early 80's on the WIMP.

The current inventory of songs for the Contemporary Smooth Jazz format is over 500 songs at present.  And this includes over 150 songs from the Roots of Smooth Jazz culled from the 1970's and early 1980's.  Here is a sampling of the music you will hear on the station.

Dozens of songs from the Smooth Jazz charts from the 1990's are being added to the playlist this weekend.

And several new songs from the current Billboard chart will be added as well.

July  28, 2019

We'll be trying additional music formats on the station during the course of the next year.  We'll announce what those formats will be and when they will air on the station on this website.

Current plans entail adding some Adult Contemporary Oldies for a few hours on the weekends in the Fall to supplement the soon to be Smooth Jazz format.

These new mobile site pages should display better on  your cell phones and small hand held devcies than the pages for the main site.  These pages will be updated when warranted.

Primary emphasis with site development will still be given to the main site for home computer users and laptop users.  Most of the information and links on these pages still can be viewed on your cell phone but images including the site Banner may not display properly in your web browser.  But the links should work and site text should be legible.
